2,673 file for War Claims as deadline approaches

Guam – Today marks the last day that individuals can file their War Claims applications. Completed and notarized applications will be mailed out to the Foreign Claims Settlement Commission. And it’s now down to the wire.

In an effort to assist individuals in filing before the deadline, Congresswoman Madeleine Bordallo’s District Office staff is ready and waiting and a notary public is on site through 7:00 this evening, as the deadline to file draws near.

In a statement provided by the office, Bordallo says that passing war claims was a commitment she made to the people of Guam and something that she never gave up on, or stopped fighting for.

She says she hopes the war claims give our manåmko recognition for what they endured during the occupation as a result of their loyalty and patriotism to the United States.

The latest report we have shows the Commission has received a total of 2,673 claims. Of those claims 347 are from family members of individuals who died as a result of the occupation and 2,326 are from victims of the occupation.
