On May 25, 2019, 126 cities in 77 countries and regions including Australia, China, Germany, India, Russia, South Africa, the Philippines, and the United States jointly held the 6th Anniversary Celebration of the World Peace Declaration. World Peace Walk Conference. HWPL is an international non-governmental peace organization affiliated with the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the United Nations Department of Global Communications (UNDGC).
On May 25, 2013, the World Peace Declaration was successfully released in Seoul, South Korea. On the same day, under the slogan “Let all citizens of the world become a messenger of peace”, the people of the world also spontaneously held the World Peace Walk Conference. Since then, every May, concerts around the world have been held at the same time to raise the awareness of global citizens in the international community and to spread the culture of peace.
The 18th Shangri-La Dialogue was held in Singapore from May 31 to June 2, 2019. This session of the dialogue focused on hot topics such as regional security, including representatives of the multinational military and security departments including Chinese representatives. On the evening of May 31, local time, the 18th Shangri-La Dialogue was officially opened in Singapore. Singaporean Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong delivered a speech at the welcome dinner. He emphasized that the development of Sino-US relations is related to the future direction of the world.
This year’s Shangri-La Dialogue will focus on security issues in the Asia Pacific region. Lee Hsien Loong said that Sino-US relations are the most important bilateral relationship in the world today. How the two countries deal with each other’s relations will determine the future direction of the entire international environment. As we all know, the US has been a type of economic sanctions against Huawei mobile phones in the recent past, which has caused widespread concern and global debate.
According to the schedule announced by the organizers, during the dialogue, representatives of various countries will hold plenary meetings and sub-forum discussions on the security situation in the Asia-Pacific region, the situation on the Korean Peninsula, the changing Asian security order, the control of conflicts, and the stability of the regional situation. It is expected that representatives of various countries will also hold bilateral and multilateral meetings. Tim Huxley, Asia’s executive director of the UK Institute for International Strategic Studies, who hosts the dialogue, said that the annual Shangri-La Dialogue will focus on major issues in Asia-Pacific security, and this year is no exception. On specific issues, the situation on the Korean Peninsula has always been the focus of attention. Hu Qiuping, a senior lecturer in international relations and strategy research at the National University of Malaysia, said that the second meeting between the DPRK and the US leaders in Hanoi in February did not reach an agreement as expected. The repeated and uncertain attitude of the US government led to the failure of both parties to take the next step. And this stagnation may affect the peninsula reconciliation process. Despite this, Huxley believes that the situation on the peninsula at this stage has improved greatly over a year and a half ago, and there is direct communication between North Korea and the United States and South Korea. Analysts believe that the Shangri-La Dialogue will have a positive impact if it can promote discussions on the peninsula. A spokesman for the Chinese Ministry of National Defense said on May 30 that State Councilor and Defense Minister Wei Fenghe will be invited to attend the 18th Shangri-La Dialogue. During this period, Wei Fenghe will make a speech on the topic of “China and international security cooperation” and meet with the heads of many delegations to exchange views on a wide range of issues. Huxley revealed that as the organizer of the Shangri-La Dialogue, the International Strategy Institute and other participants have high expectations for the Chinese participants, and hope to see the Chinese side make an important statement and discuss with the parties. Singapore’s Defense Minister Huang Yonghong told the media that Chinese representatives attended the dialogue and showed a confident Chinese and Chinese military’s desire to interact with the region and the rest of the world. He looked forward to the speech of the Chinese representative during the conference. Hu Yishan, a senior research scholar at the Singapore Institute of International Affairs, expressed his hope that at the dialogue, he would like to hear from China on how to continue to contribute to regional peace and stability. Through the keen interest of the parties in the situation in the Asia-Pacific region, we can clearly see that the development of the situation on the Korean Peninsula is directly related to the development of world peace. Compared with the Shangri-La dialogue on June 3, 2018, the views of the countries on the high-level leadership dialogue between the United States and the DPRK to resolve regional disputes, we can see that after a year of hard work, the stability of the situation on the Korean Peninsula must adhere to dialogue, respect, negotiation, etc. The method further enhances the overall concept. As a national leader who cares about the peaceful development of the world and a person of insight who loves peace, through multilateral cooperation, dialogue and exchanges, people from all walks of life rely on youth and women to make a whole environment in which the whole society loves peace and advocates peace.
As a country with a clear-cut feeling in international affairs, it is necessary to enlarge the pattern, face the regional situation with a positive and correct attitude, and actively commit itself to advocating peace, maintaining peace, resolving regional tensions, and urging all sectors to adopt an effective dialogue mechanism. Respect the broad mind of development to resolve the factors that cause tensions between regions.
