Who is responsible for achieving peace in the world?

by Eman Damarany

Especially after the spread of conflicts around the world, especially in the Middle East, where refugees; homeless children, raped women and massacred men have become the common feature. What is this devastation and destruction? What are these conflicts for heaven’s sake?

Humanity is being lost in every corner of this earth because of many unstoppable wars. The important question here is who is responsible for achieving peace around the world? Is it the responsibility of governments or the responsibility of the peoples? Or the responsibility of civil society institutions? Or is it the responsibility of the United Nations and the Security Council? Or is it the responsibility of journalists, media professionals and the mass media? In fact, it is the responsibility of all these, both through its position and in terms of its responsibilities and powers. Every individual, no matter how simple his or her role, is able to support and promote the idea of peace. A mother in her family can raise her children to love peace and love friends and colleagues, to renounce violence, and to coexist peacefully with others regardless of differences in religion or nationality. The school has teachers who have the same role as students. The role of civil society institutions, especially those aiming at peace, is to increase conferences and workshops for young people of different ages and nationalities; to bring their views closer together and to remove intellectual differences among them, and explain to them the importance of peace and our dire need for peace.

The greater role will be for the media and journalists through the publication of articles calling for peace and the dissemination of news and activities of associations and institutions that aim to achieve peace. Here the clergy have a great responsibility because beliefs have a strong influence on people’s ideas and every person who embraces a particular religion, look upon the clergy with respect and reverence, respond to their guidance and appreciate their instructions. Therefore, the clergy must direct people to the importance of the idea of peace, and God’s commands are to call for peace. The killing of people, the human spirit, or harming others is one of the sins that anger and displease God.

As for the role of governments worldwide; governments must move away from conflicts and wars as much as possible, the Earth has a place for all of us and so countries, which have wars and historical conflicts with other countries, must conclude treaties and put an end to it so that neighboring countries can live in peace and stability, since within the realm of this stability there will be an opportunity to devote time and energy to further development, progress and prosperity. The role of the UN is to issue an international acceleration and a law to declare peace and renounce wars and conflicts so that this law becomes binding on all countries. The role of the Security Council is to impose economic and military sanctions on any country that violates and does not abide by international peace law.
