WOW! Another PRIZE IN SIBIU: The ASTRA County Library hosts the first South East Peace Museum – Peace Museum Romania (Peace Museum Romania)

 

 

 

The ASTRA County Library Sibiu hosts the first South East European Peace Museum on Monday 1 October 2018 and the first Mobile Peace Museum in the world . The idea of ​​setting up the museum belongs to Magdalena Cristina BUTUCEA, an activist for peace and human rights, who proposes through this exhibition to spread as widely as possible information on the concept of peace, peace education, human rights protection and awareness of the essential importance of peace has, both globally and regionally and locally.

 

The opening of the Peace Museum Romania will take place on Thursday, October 4, 2018, 12:00 , at the ASTRA County Library, Sibiu, George Bariţiu, no. 7, Corp B, Foaier.

As we learn from the hosts, the special guest at the event will be Mr. Grattan LYNCH, founder of European Peace Walk, author of European Security and Stability Pact books, with over 10 years of international experience in political affairs, disarmament and conflict resolution, participating in various missions of the UN, OSCE, UNDP and the EU in Cameroon, Russia, Paraguay, Ukraine, Serbia, Haiti, Libya, Kosovo, Afghanistan and the Congo.

The official opening of the museum took place in early 2018 in Râmnicu Vâlcea. Peace Museum Romaniahas a permanent collaboration with the peace museums in the US, Europe and Japan, and in particular with the Peace Museum of Vienna, the Peace Museum Colorado (USA), the European Peace Walk and the European Network of Museums for Peace Vienna) , including the organization of the event in Sibiu.

Worthy of note, peace education defines a positive and integrated educational approach that seeks to promote values ​​such as respect, freedom, justice, peace, equality, solidarity, through attitudes such as respect for others, interest in global issues, critical approach, engagement and constructive action, social responsibility. Among the objectives of peace education we enumerate: ● Understanding the notion of peace and its opposite; ● identifying and studying peace strategies; ● Developing the pacification project as a civilization project; ● exercising the capacity to act in a pacifist spirit; ● constructive conflict resolution.

” The Peace Museum of Romania is an atypical approach, it differs from other museum institutions in that it is itinerant. The intention is to support all those interested in these concepts by bringing the museum as close as possible to the representatives of local communities in the country. The museum features exhibits depicting outstanding personalities of the world, including Romania, who have contributed throughout history to defending peace and human rights. Mahatma Ghandi, Bertha von Sutter, Albert Einstein, Dalai Lama, Martin Luther King Jr., Nelson Mandela, King Mihai I of Romania, IC Bratianu are just a few big names that make up the gallery of the Romanian Peace Museum “ – says Magdalena Cristina BUTUCEA, founder museum.

IMPORTANT: The Peace Museum Romania exhibition addresses the whole Sibiu community, especially pupils, students and teachers, and can be visited in the Sibiu County Library Program (from Monday to Friday from 8:00 to 20:00).
